The whole scene of the series has a child-like theme, with brightly colored surroundings and gigantic playgrounds. The rest of the cast includes obvious good guys and antagonists, but they all have compelling enough backstories to explain why they would let themselves be lured into the Game in the first place.
Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon) is a North Korean defector who needs a house to get her brother out of an orphanage. His childhood friend, investment banker Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo), has been stealing money from his clients. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), owes a fortune to loan sharks and twice as much to the bank, but he wants to take care of his elderly mother and 10-year-old daughter. And we get to see just what people would do to win it, as they have nothing much to lose after all. Just when you think that this is enough for them to stop playing, think again.Įvery single one of the players in Squid Game is in debt or has committed some sort of crime, and the Squid Game is their chance to get back their normal life (pay off their debts). Little did all of them know in the beginning, that every person might die as each game takes place. The series takes Korean children’s game and turns it into a horrifying fight to the death to win attractive cash prizes up to 46 billion won. If you see the circle, triangle and square on a card, you’ll know what’s the deal with it if you have watched.
